This cute little fellow is a yellow-bellied marmot, more commonly known as a rock chuck. I found him hiding by the trash can and he doesn't want to move. The cats are scaring him but it looks to me like he'd eat a cat. He has a high piercing chrip (the internet calls it a whistle). I think he must live across the street in the empty field.

I thought that we had some interesting friends stopping by our place, but you totally topped us on that one. I have to say that I strongly recommend that you do NOT keep this one as a pet. I hear that they are tricky to potty train.

Wow I can't believe the kinds of animals popping by. Looks like this one has really made himself at home! I am curious to see how he would get along with Atticus...he has a high-pitched "chirp" too you know.
