Some things you might not know about your Dad

This is one of my very favorite pictures of your Dad....I can't tell you how many times he has looked at me just like this. The principal of the elem school asked me for some information and pictures about your Dad for a presentation at the assembly the last day of school. I am including here what I sent her, just in case you didn't know these things.

1) Rubik’s Cube: In 1981 Brent came across the Rubik’s Cube. He spent months figuring it out, then wrote a small book on his solution which was published in 1982. He was interviewed on Channel 4 News with one of his 3th grade students who maneuvered the cube really fast. Brent has since learned how to solve the cube in a different, faster way and can solve it blind folded. Many of his classes have also learned to solve the Rubik’s cube. Brent can manipulate the cube in under a minute.

2) Brent taught himself to program computers back in 1985 -86. He wrote a Mathematics management program for San Juan School District. Sanpete School District saw his program and paid him to write a similar program for them. They then recruited him to move to Mt Pleasant to work for them. That is how our family moved to Mt Pleasant in 1987. He decided to teach rather than do computers. He has loved being a teacher.

3) Brent has been assigned to 5 of the classrooms in the Mt Pleasant Elementary School. He has taught all grades, except Kindergarten. He taught 8 years in Montezuma Creek on the Navajo Reservation, 3 years in Blanding and 24 years in Mt Pleasant.

4) Brent has had all 6 of his children in his classes, and 5 of his nieces and nephews. This year Brent has a student who is the child of one of his former students. (Chris Larsen)

That is my favorite picture also! Amazingly enough I remember all those things. I even remember the news report of Dad. Funny enough I remember being in his class, one of my favorite years, not because it was easy (it was not) but because it was so much fun! I also remember teachers asking me computer questions, like I knew because I was Dad's daughter. (if they only knew how bad at computers I am) I pity the kids that are coming after Dad leaves. They will be missing a great teacher.

It is sad Dad wont be teaching anymore. He is such a great teacher. I agree with Jen. I loved my year with him, because he made learning fun.
