My Dad died early this morning and I have been thinking about him and our relationship. I wish those of you who didn't know him 8 years ago could have gotten to know the wonderful, interesting person that he was then, before dementia clouded his mind. He taught me how to apologize. He had a temper and he gave it to me, but he would apologize and acknowledge he was in the wrong. I needed that help with my own children. He taught me to play the clarinet and to love music....I treasure both. He taught me to study and learn the gospel for myself, not rely on other people's knowledge. He taught me that family is the most important of all, not things or money. We lost money together when we went into business with each other...there was no blame attached when the business died, he just said what a great learning experience it was and he really meant it. A few of his favorite sayings are 'we are here to gain experience','the race isn't over yet', 'things are not important' and the all important universal usage phrase 'hells bells'. What a blessing he has been to me and how grateful I am to be his daughter and to have had him live near me. See you later Dad.
